Having been an active coach for a number of years, how do I become a Cycling SA Coach?

Having been an active coach for a number of years, Cycling South Africa is prepared to recognise this fact and as such coaches may apply for Recognition of Current Competence (RCC) or in the case of tertiary qualifications it is possible to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) in order to by pass certain elements of Cycling South Africa’s National Coach Accreditation/Education process and our coach education courses. This may also include coaching courses from another sports and/or cycling federations.

What qualifications do I need?

As of January 2010 it was a requirement of Cycling South Africa and the Coaching Commission’s that all coaches from a Level 1 upwards have an updated First Aid Certificate.

As of 1st January 2012, First Aid is a pre-requisiteto attend ALL Cycling South Africa accredited coaches.

As a coach, it isbeneficial to keep your First Aid qualification up to date.

 What coaching insurance is available for coaches?

Cycling South Africa and its Coaching Commission are still in its building stages. We intend to engage our commercial partners, Accelerate, to source an insurance package for Cycling South African accredited coaches.

In the interim all coaches are encouraged to have their own insurances in place.

How do I keep my Coach Accreditation updated?

In order to remain as a Cycling South Africa accredited coach, it is necessary to renew accreditation every four years.

Coaches are requested to resign the Individual Agreement form where there is and acknowledgement to abide by the Coaches Code of Ethics, as well as the Sports Safety and HIV Aids policies. Additionally there is the supporting requirement of a letter from either the Club or Provincial president or secretary the coach is performing their coaching activities.

Membership of Cycling South Africa must be kept up to date.
